Points of Interest

  • A variety of sculpture at certain locations along the trail, increasing in number year on year (but some in place for the summer months only).
  • Bird-watching opportunities throughout the trail.
  • Historic Georgian town of Holt offering an array of restaurants, pubs and fine shops.
  • Holt Country Park - tranquil woodland dominated with Scots Pine and native broadleaves and rich in ground flora supporting an abundant display of wildlife including Goldcrests, Greater Spotted Woodpeckers, Emperor Dragonflies and Deer.
  • North Norfolk "Poppy Line" railway joining Holt with Kelling Heath Halt (give the legs a rest!). Runs onto Sheringham.

Getting Around

For guide purposes the route starts at Salthouse, which is on the A149 coast road and the Coasthopper bus route. The trail can be explored on foot and in part by cycle. Car parking is available at Salthouse near the Church, The Stable Gallery at Kelling Hall, Holt town, Holt Country Park and Kelling Heath Holiday Park. Note: The route contains some steps, some short sections of road, and a few short hill climbs, while all being pleasant walking. This is the countryside - you may encounter mud, puddles and nettles! Please exercise great care on roads, road crossings and the level crossing at Kelling Heath. The Trail is not suitable for unsupervised children.

Public Houses, food and toilet stops are highlighted on the map. Key locations include The Dun Cow Pub, Cookies Crab Show and the Chippy at Salthouse, The Stable Gallery at Kelling Hall, Holt town, Holt Country Park, Holt Station and Kelling Heath Holiday Park and The Old Reading Room at Kelling.

Places to Stay

If you do not live locally and wish to explore the whole trail and everything else north Norfolk has to offer, independent B&B’s are located along the route or for self-catering cottages visit . Camping can also be found at Kelling Heath Holiday Park.
